It’s not just about showing homes. The 2022 Biloxi Manufactured Housing Expo had to pivot to accommodate its manufacturers but is still making an impact on the industry. Instead of canceling the event for a second consecutive year, it was decided that the event would transform from a home show into an exposition to create industry momentum. When the manufacturers began communicating their challenges to displaying model homes in Biloxi, the SCMHI board that oversees the event stepped in to voice their support for change.
So why would anyone want to attend the event? As the first major multi-state industry event for the year, the Expo offers a venue for the country’s top manufacturers to engage retailers, community owners and managers, lenders, suppliers, and others in-person to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing our industry.
In addition to networking and convening, the Expo features educational sessions on current topics such as advanced selling approaches using social media, more efficient community management, transforming aging communities, and attracting new talent to the workforce. The topics are designed to help attendees address issues they are currently facing. The exhibit hall is sold out with over 89 exhibitors attending and ready to engage attendees in discussion on the impact and opportunities facing their areas of specialty. There are also planned events such as a golf tournament, opening reception, and happy hours to enhance in-person engagement to conduct business and network.
The Biloxi Manufactured Housing Expo is exactly what our industry needs during a time when the effects of the pandemic are fading, the affordable housing gap continues to grow as does the demand for housing, and our nation is facing inflation rates not seen since the 1980s. By providing an enriching in-person event in the first quarter of the year, our industry is able to collaborate with its thought leaders, gain perspectives and insights more easily than in Zoom meetings, and plan more effectively for the remainder of the year.
